What does it take to be an officer? This is a question that I have been asked more times then I can count. I will give you a quick deffinition of what I Believe an officer should be:
Loyal and trustworthy are the first 2 key componants.
A sence of FAIR PLAY towards ALL fellow Guild Mates regardless of of thier rank.
One who puts others before themselves even if it means putting your own goals aside to run help a Guild Mate.
Reliability...always knowing you can count on them to make the right choices for the good of the Guild.
Being kind & courtious towards everyone in the game. The greatest compliments a GM can get is a whisper from another guilded player praising one of our Guildies for their efforts.
Patients and the ability to set aside personal feelings to finish a task even when the run/raid/group etc goes in the toilet... Never let your anger or stress get the better of you.
Self sacrifice...Getting off your alt toon and getting on your mains when u see someone having difficulty finding groups or completing simple quests.
Availability...making yourself available for runs, raids and just plain helping other actually helps a Guild to progress. Not much good having a T9+ toon sitting while your too busy on ur alt to help someone out.
A good sence of your toons role and capabilities coupled with the understanding of the mechanics of the game... makes you damn usefull.
Social Engineering skills are a must...If you dont know what social engineering skills are I will personally give you some examples of this...just ask me if you dare.
Most often then not...If I get a whisper from a player wanting Officer Status , its usually an indication that either they are : Only out to help themselves.
Wanting total bank access to gear their alts or buddies.
Looking to have some sort of leverage over others etc.
This is not always the case. Once in a rare blue moon you will actually be asked by someone who is sincerly genuine and just wanting to help out. Trust me...these people are rare. An easy way to check a persons sincerity is to offer them officer status after telling them the following. "I have put alot of time and effort into this guild. If I was to make you an officer, would you be willing to give me (the GM) your account info?" "Lets face it as an officer you have total access to all that has been created here and can destroy the bank system, our good name as one of the better guilds to belong to as well as upset the balance of the Guild" I think that you will find that only those truely wishing to help would give you that info.
Dale and Lissa are probably the most trustworthy people ANY of you will ever get a chance to run with. Their dedication to the guild and its players is flawless, fair and considerate and I have no problems with them having access to my account(s) Toons, Banks and Personal info. The Officers that they have put in place are some of the finest players that I have had the privlige to play with and would have no problem with them having the same access to my account(s). I dont feel that this is a necessary step to take. I just believe that if you feel as strongly as I do about protecting the Guild that we all enjoy being a part of that you would be willing to go to any messure to protect it as well.
I,m sure that Warz and Warlissa have more then enough experience to spot potential Officers within the ranks of the guild. The Officers in place at this moment also have this ability and are the eyes, ears and protectors when Dale and Lissa are not on.
The squeeky wheel does not necessarliy always get the attention its looking for and sometimes just changing the wheel is much easier... Meaning if your constantly asking without merit or without your actions speaking for themselves , then it may be to change your tactics.
